 GUWAHATI, Oct 14 Milon Chora, a socio-cultural organisation of people hailing from Baligaon in Jorhat district has embarked on a drive to organise about 20 memorial lectures in the names of departed great sons and daughters of Baligaon.

The luminaries on whose memory the lectures would be organised include Jagannath Baruah, the first graduate of upper Assam, freedom fighter Gangadhar Barkataky, freedom fighter and woman leader Annada Devi Barkataky, educationist Murulidhar Baruah, Oriental scholar Devendra Nath Sankhya Tirtha, novelist Devendra Nath Acharya, administrator and author Satyendranath Barkataky, litterateurs Munindranath Bar-kakaky and Parma Barkataky, educationst Binod Chandra Bhattacharya, and freedom fighter Bhabani Charan Thakur.

Milon Chora, in its meeting held here recently, also decided to award financial assistance to brilliant students coming from poor families. It has also opened a wing to attend to the problems faced by pensioners and serving personnel of Baligaon area.
