Riflemen in ID Cup final

 NAGAON, Oct 14 Assam Rifles Soccer Team will lock horns with Langsning Football Club of Shillong in the summit clash of the Independence Day Cup Football Tournament.

In the keenly contested second semifinal at the Nurul Amin Stadium here under lights, Assam Rifles edged past Royal Wahingdoh of Shillong 2-1.

The Riflemen, based at Lokra, Tezpur, played a spirited game in the first session and went 2-0 ahead at the break.

Veteran striker Akum Ao set the ball for N Chang Kuki with a measured through and Kuki hit the back of the net with a smart punch.

Following a foul play Assam Rifles were awarded a spot kick in the 29th minute and Akum made no mistake in shooting home.

But in the second session the Shillong teams tried to make a comeback with a better team work. But their strikers let them down as they squandered several easy scoring opportunities.

They, however, managed to reduce the margin in the 76th minute when Reagan Singh shot home.

The final will be played on October 16 under lights.
