Sonowal to hit campaign trail for Ratabari bypoll
Staff Correspondent
SILCHAR, Oct 13 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will visit Barak Valley on October 14 to add fillip to the campaign to poll-bound Ratabari Assembly constituency under Karimganj district which will go for by-election on October 21.

BJP state vice president and veteran leader Biswaroop Bhattacharjee told The Assam Tribune on Saturday that the Chief Minister will address two public meetings in the constituency during his whirlwind tour.

“We are gearing up for the visit of the Chief Minister to the constituency. He will address public meetings and campaign for the party candidate Bijoya Malakar at Anandapur and Nivia before going back to Guwahati. Preparations for the bypoll is going on in full swing and we are confident of retaining the seat,” the BJP vice president said.

He also informed that Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to campaign in the constituency on October 16 followed by state president Ranjeet Dass on October 18.

Asked whether the party is confident about the candidate contesting from the seat, Bhattacharjee replied that Bijoya Malakar started his political career as a staunch ABVP cadre. As a BJP party worker, he has worked hard since the past 16 years to win the confidence of the state leadership and we believe he has the elements to come out with flying colours in the bypolls.

“Unlike Congress candidates, our candidate got his poll ticket on the back of his hard work,” Bhattacharjee maintained.
