CORRESPONDENT NALBARI, Oct 12 - The Assam Tourism Development Corporation has resolved to take some drastic steps to make the Raas festival more attractive for the tourists.

In this connection, high-level officials of the Tourism Department held a meeting with the the Raas celebration committee at the Nalbari Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall on Friday evening.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah, Director of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Deva Misra, Managing Director Bhaskar Phukan, Secretary of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Sudarsan Thakur, MLA of Nalbari LAC Ashok Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury, among others.
Representatives of the Raas celebration committee of Sri Sri Hari Mandir, among other Raas celebration committees of the district, took part in the meeting.
ATDC Chairman Baruah speculated that the flow of foreign tourists will increase manifold if we can give exposure to the unique Raas festival at the national and international level.
He added that the Assam State Tourism Development Corporation has decided to erect hoardings of Raas festival at the airport in Nagpur, Surat and Kolkata, among others, in order to attract more visitors.
Further, the radio too will be used to gain wide publicity, Baruah added. He further added that during the 13-day Raas festival, the Tourism Department will run air-conditioned buses from Guwahati to Bongaigaon via Nalbari.
Similarly, his department will mount pressure on the Railway department to stop all the trains at Nalbari station. Additionally, the Tourism Department will erect some special gates at various places of the town. They also launched logos for the publicity of Raas festival of Nalbari and Majuli.
Baruah exhibited the logo at the meeting and shared the advertisement to be broadcast through radio. The Tourism Department as per the request of the Raas celebration committee will take steps to perform Raas Bhaona of Majuli at Nalbari Raas. He also assured all possible assistance to the Tihu, Allia and Shilpotabari Raas celebration committees.
