BADARPUR, Oct 12 - The neighbouring country Bangladesh will be invited for the Namami Barak Festival to give a boost to the industry, trade and commerce sectors of the entire Karimganj district.
This was stated by the Karimganj Deputy Commissioner, Pradeep Kumar Talukder, while addressing the gathering in a Karimganj district development meeting recently in his office chamber. DC Talukder also said, “All sorts of cultural events of the entire Karimganj district will also be showcased in the festival.” Moreover, different cultural programmes will also be organised to draw the attention of guests and leading citizens.
Meanwhile, the people of Badarpur and several political leaders have been vehemently criticising the State government for not selecting Badarpur as the venue for celebrating the Barak Namami Festival.
In a statement, the protesters stated that a major portion of the Barak river flows through Badarpur. However, only Kushiara river and its tributaries are in Karimganj. Besides, for celebrating the Namami Barak Festival at Badarpur, there are sufficient places here. So, by depriving Badarpur from being the venue of the festival, the venue selection committee has done injustice to the people here.
