Conference of trained nurses’ body begins
 MANGALDAI, Oct 12 - The 38th biennial conference of the Assam branch of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) started here on Thursday with various programmes.

The three-day event organised by the GNM & ANM Training School, Mangaldai, is expected to witness a massive gathering of around 600 delegates from across the State besides a host of prominent academicians, invited guests and State-level senior office-bearers of the organisation.

The schedule for the first day of the conference has been limited to registration of delegates and display of posters at the GNM Training School auditorium till 4 pm, followed by the meeting of the executive committee of TNAI, Assam branch.

The ceremonial inaugural function is scheduled on Friday from 11.30 am onwards at the District Library auditorium of Mangaldai where Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, the State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Finance and Education, will be the chief guest, while Eli Ahmed, Padma Shri award recipient and noted writer and social activist, will grace the occasion as the guest of honour.

The inaugural function will also be attended by both the BJP MLAs of the district, Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kumar Saikia, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman and other invited guests. The inaugural session will be followed by the first plenary session on ‘Nurses Empowerment – Ways and Means’ and paper presentation session.

These sessions will witness lectures from several leading academicians from the nursing training field of the North-east, including Prof Krishna Das, Regional College of Nursing, Guwahati; Dipalee Das, Principal Hayat Institute of Nursing; Dr Arunjyoti Baruah, HoD, Nursing, LGBRIMH of Tezpur; and Dr Unmona Borgohain, Principal of Asian Institute of Nursing Education, Guwahati; among others.

Earlier in the day, the president of the TNAI, Assam branch, Dr Banashri Lata Sadhanidar, will unfurl the organisational flag.

The three-day celebration will also feature various contests among the delegates, including spot painting, floor decoration, solo and group dance, essay, quiz, debate and athletics, among others.
