State doctor bags ICMR Award |
GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - Dr Hemonta Kumar Dutta, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatric Surgery, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh was conferred the ICMR Award for Biomedical Research conducted in underdeveloped areas for the year 2014, a press release received here stated.
Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare gave away the award at a function held at the National Institute of Medical Science auditorium on Wednesday.
Dr Dutta was presented the award for his work on nutritional deficiency and birth defects among tea garden workers in Assam. A gold medallist from AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Dutta is one of six biomedical scientists of the country to have been selected for the prestigious ICMR International Fellowship for the 2017-18 term.
