DIBRUGARH, Oct 12 - In an effort to spot football talents from the tea belt and help them develop their skills, the RD Educational and Sports Foundation will hold an inter-tea garden sports event annually in memory of late Rameshwar Dhanowar, former minister and eight time MLA of Digboi LAC.
Speaking on behalf of the hosting organisation, Manoj Dhanowar, the Managing Trustee, RD Educational and Sports Foundation told the media during a press conference at the Khalihamari branch of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) here today that Rameshwar Dhanowar Memorial Football Tournament will be organised primarily to spot football talents in the tea gardens and help them take the sport as a career. He said that the promising youths will be further trained for bigger events.
The tournament is being organised in association with the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha and Assam Tea Tribes’ Students’ Association (ATTSA).
“The tournament will kick off with the opening match at Khoomtaie Tea Estate near Moranhat Town from October 15 and conclude on November 26. The tournament for the year will cover the districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Charaideo. The matches will be organised in eight zones. The zones include Digboi, Doomdooma, Dibrugarh, Margherita, Moran, Naharkatia, Panitola and Tingrai. The zonal winners will be honoured with trophies. The winner in the final match will be given away Rs 15,000 and the runners-up will receive Rs 10,000 as prize money besides certificates and other gifts,” said Manoj Dhanowar.
