Meghalaya MLAs’ salary slashed|
SHILLONG, Oct 12 - Just ahead of Assembly elections, Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday took a decision to slash MLAs’ pay cheque by Rs 8,000. Accordingly, the total emolument stands reduced from Rs 2.10 lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma defended the move and said the decision was taken after careful examination. “It is wrong to allege everything as election gimmick,” he said. He said that if the MLAs draw Rs 2.10 lakh then the government has to increase the salary of Ministers.
The Cabinet has also added new clauses in the services rules of the Department of Land Records and Survey.
