Cong criticises health minister for infants’ death|
BARPETA, Oct 11 - The Opposition Congress on Wednesday expressed concern over large scale death of infants in Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital.Talking to reporters on her visit to the hospital, Shehnaj Yasmin Hoque, president of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, termed the death as unfortunate and said that it could happen only because of the indifferent attitude of Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma towards the issue.
Quoting Dr Sarma’s statement regarding the cause of death of the infants, Hoque criticised the government’s failure to make the people aware about safe pregnancy and stop adolescent marriage.
Taking a dig at the functioning of the State government, she said that it has run an autocratic government sans democracy and transparency. Hoque condemned the attack on Australian players and said that it was an outcome of the lapsation of security arrangements. She demanded proper enquiry and bring the culprits to book.
