DIBRUGARH, Oct 11 - The Ministry of External Affairs has approved the establishment of a passport office here, according to an official communication received recently. The demand for a passport office in the town was raised and pursued vigorously by the Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha.
External Affairs Ministry Office Director AK Sobti has informed the Government of Assam, vide letter no. CPV/PMU/551/5/2017, dated 16-8-17, that the demand for a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Dibrugarh by the general secretary of the Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha has been noted. The letter said a PSK will be set up in Dibrugarh along with similar facilities in eight other district headquarters of the State.
The Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha has expressed its happiness over the decision taken by the External Affairs Ministry. “Our demand has facilitated a service to common people in several other cities, which is a good and welcome move by the Centre,” said Sangha’s secretary Ron Duarah.
The External Affairs Ministry has informed that the government is in the process of completing necessary formalities, selection and preparation of sites and procurement of equipment. It is expected that the passport office here will be commissioned within the current financial year.
