Advocate convicted for criminal intimidation |
JONAI, Oct 11 - The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Jonai convicted a Jonai-based advocate Raju Chetry under section 506 IPC for intimidating a local businessman of dire consequences inside a police station. The JMFC also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Chetry and ordered that he will undergo simple imprisonment for 15 days, if he fails to pay the fine.Based on the chargesheet filed by the Jonai Police Station against case no. 229/2016, U/S-294/506 IPC (GR Case No. 284/16), the JMFC delivered the judgment by convicting accused Chetry. The accused advocate on December 20 last year also abused one Binoy Sengupta with obscene language and also threatened to kill him.
The convicted advocate is also an acting Executive Councillor of the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) with its headquarters at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district. The court, however, has given him bail till 15/11/2017.
The court acquitted him under section 294 of IPC.
