GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - Pawan Bajaj, Chairman of State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) for West Bengal and Managing Director & CEO of United Bank of India (UBI), on Tuesday launched the nation-wide Special Financial Inclusion Camp (FI Camp) and MUDRA Promotional Campaign at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata, a press release said
The programme, organised by SLBC of West Bengal under the convener bank United Bank of India, was attended by Anindita Sinha Ray from the Ministry of Finance, Ashok Kumar Pradhan, Charan Singh and S Harishankar, Executive Directors of United Bank of India, UCO Bank and Allahabad Bank respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Bajaj, Chairman of the SLBC-West Bengal, said, “I am sure that with this sort of initiatives at the Central Government level from time to time, the culture of entrepreneurship will flourish and India will further consolidate its position as the business hub in the region. The success of the scheme will also empower both financially as well as intellectually the rural youth and women.”
However, while explaining the challenges faced by the banks and financial institutions in sanctioning loans under the scheme, Bajaj pointed out that lack of credit history of these small borrowers and limited bureau services are proving to be major handicaps, the release added.
