GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - The Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Assam branch organised the ‘Capacity Building Workshop of Young Reporters on Mainstream Journalism’ on October 9 and 10 with support from KKHSOU and UNICEF, Assam. The workshop was held at Don Bosco Institute of Management, Kharghuli here.
These young reporters are part of ‘Experiment with Adolescent Participation’ which was earlier called Young Reporters’ Initiative and their network consists of around 700 members across four districts of the State. This year 20 young boys and girls were selected to attend the workshop.
Such workshops are held annually to train reporters who report on issues concerning children in their respective communities through Mukta Akash, a quarterly newspaper. Since 2009, they have been highlighting the plight of children from marginalised communities.
Partha Dev Goswami, Asomiya Pratidin; senior journalist Mrinal Talukdar; Rituparna Das, AIR Guwahati and Rupam Barua, Editor Sophura were the invited guests for the session.
Among other topics, the young reporters were trained on how to professionally source information on the field, how to better their craft of reporting and on the basic tenets of journalism.
