Golden jubilee of SSB School concludes

 JAGIROAD, Oct 11 – The three-day golden jubilee celebration of the Swahid Surjya Bora High School situated at Baghjap under Mayong circle five kilometres from here, concluded recently.

The three-day celebration had begun with a tree plantation programme led by Prafulla Hazarika, Range Officer, Social Forestry, Kuloi. Parliamentary Secretary and local MLA Bibekananda Doloi, who was also the president of the reception committee, hoisted the flag. This was followed by hoisting of the school flag by Banti Deka, headmistress of the school. Gandhubor Deka, president SMDC of the school lit the lamp, while Sudhir Borthakur, retired HoD of Economics, Morigaon College who was also the working president of the reception committee offered smriti tarpan.

Local MLA Doloi inaugurated a cultural procession, in which various ethnic groups participated. A good number of retired teachers and employees of the school were felicitated during the three-day celebration. Painting and quiz competitions were also organised among the school students.

A seminar on ‘The future of the current education system of Assam’ was held in memory of Dibakar Bharali, founder principal of Jagi HS School. Ram Charan Bharali, founder principal of Dimoria College Khetri, Chidam Deori, former HoD of Economics, Morigaon College and Dr Hema Chutia, Associate Professor of Jagiroad College were the main participants. Dr BC Neog, Principal, Jagiroad College conducted the seminar.

Delivering his lecture on the existing system of education in Assam, Dr Chutia highlighted the secondary level of education and explained the causes of decreasing tendency of reading habit among the students due to the extensive use of new communication devices.

Dr Neog who conducted the seminar, said he was optimistic about the future of the education system in Assam as well as in India. He opined that the future would be more dynamic and exceptional.

Paban Ch Gogoi, a teacher of Jagiroad College who is also the principal of the Sur Deol Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Jagiroad, inaugurated a cultural function in memory of Jogendra Nath Deka, former headmaster of the school, in which students and ex-students of the school performed.

Naba Kanta Bordoloi, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha released the golden jubilee souvenir edited by Joysing Bordoloi and Rajumoni Saikia.

Atul Ch Bhattacharyya, former Deputy Inspector of Education inaugurated the open session. Attending the open session as the chief guest, Sarat Ch Borkotoki, Education Advisor, in his speech promised all possible help to take the school to a higher level.

Speaking at the open session, Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain announced that he would sanction Rs 2 lakh from his MP Local Area Development Fund for development of the school.

Presiding over the session, MLA Doloi announced that a statue of Swahid Surjya Bora would be erected along with a park in front of the school immediately with assistance from the MLA fund.

Anil Raja, general secretary APCC, Bir Kr Konwar, member Jagi Bhakatgaon ZPC, Deepali Boro, EM TAC, Rabidhar Deka, assistant secretary, Assam High School Teachers’ Association and Haramohan Kalita, Principal, Jagiroad HS School also attended the open session.
