BARPETA, Oct 11 – The 565th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev, the doyen of the Vaisnavite movement in Assam will be observed at Barpeta in a grand manner by the Barpeta Barbazar Juvak Sangh with a four-day-long programme from October 13-16 at the Sri Sri Nararayan Das Thakur Ata Kshetra in the heart of the town.
According to information provided by Kshirod Kumar Das, secretary of the Barpeta Barpeta Barbazar Juvak Sangh, the four-day-long programme will begin with usha kirtan in the wee hours on October 13. The inauguration programme of the 565th birth anniversary celebration of the great saint will be held at 7.30 am that day. The president of the Barpeta Barbazar Juvak Sangh Haren Das will inaugurate the preogramme.
Bhagawat will be erected on the altar by Narayan Das Burhabhakat of Barpeta Satra at 7.45 am. An elocution competition among the students is scheduled for 10 am that day which will be inaugurated by Dimbeswar Medhi, lecturer, DIET, Dhubri. Sarai will be offered at Barpeta Satra at 4 pm with a procession of gayan bayan, an indispensable part of the Satriya tradition. A special programme on Sankari culture will be held at 6 pm to be inaugurated by Bashishtha Dev Sarma Burha satriya of Barpeta Satra.
Plantation to be done at Sri Sri Narayan Das Thakur Ata Satra Na Baradi will be inaugurated by Dr Babul Das, professor of Madhab Choudhury College Barpeta at 8 am on October 14. Khanindra Kumar Das, retired professor of Baosi Banikanta Kakati College, Nagaon Barpeta, Giridhari Das, subject teacher, Palhazi Higher Secondary School, Baban Kalita, secretary, Sri Sri Narayan Das Thakur Ata Satra Management Committee and Haren Das, president of the celebration committee will participate in the plantation programme. The procession of Bap Bandhaba Aai Matri coming from Barpeta Satra with the Bhagabat will be received in the venue with due respect on the morning of October 14.
The first religious sitting to be held on this occasion is scheduled at 4.30 pm on October 14 which will be presided by Akshaya Kumar Mishra, ex-president of Barpeta district Sahitya Sabha. The meeting will be inaugurated by Gunindra Nath Das, ex-MLA, Barpeta. Riju Pathak and Dr Anal Chandra Bhardwaj, Deka Satradhikar, Sankardev Satra Uttar Betna will participate in the meeting as special speakers.
At 1 am on the October 15, a compettion on Borgeet will be held which will be inaugurated by Ajay Bayan, trainer on Borgeet posted at the Cultural Centre, Madhupur. The second religious meeting is scheduled at 4.30 pm that day which will be presided over by Uddhab Chandra Das, president in-charge, Sankar-Madhabdev Mission, Barpeta. The meeting to be inaugurated by Chandra Kanta Das, retired Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam will be participated by Akshaya Uzir, Saran Sadasya, Sankardev Sangh and Dipak Das. Harekrishna Mahanta, Satradhikar, Barangajuli Satra will be felicitated in the meeting.
The four-day extravaganza will be come to an end on October 16 with the performance of naam prasanga in line with the paal naam at 9 am. The organisers have requested people from all sections of the society to participate in the programme enmasse and make it a grand success.
