MORIGAON, Oct 11 – The year-long 150th birth anniversary celebration of Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezborua will start at Ahotgurighat, the birthplace of Bezborua, in Morigaon district from October14 under the auspices of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with the Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha.
Hectic preparations are on to hold the three-day programme of the 150th birth anniversary at Ahotgurighat where the doyen of Assamese language and literature was born. According to the office bearers of the reception committee, on October 14 tributes will be paid before Bezborua’s statue followed by singing of O Mur Apunar Desh... in various languages. In all, 150 earthen lamps will be lit to go along with the occasion.
On the following day, a programme titled ‘Kuhi’ will be conducted by Mousumi Mahanta Goswami, convener of the function. A seminar on ‘Asomiya Bhasa Sahityar Uttaranat Bahee Alusonir Obodan’ will be inaugurated by Kanaksen Deka, former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha. Dr Ranjit Dev Goswami and Dr Naren Kalita will participate in this seminar.
On October 16, popular cine actor Nipon Goswami will inaugurate the colourful procession. On the same day, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will open the Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezborua Setu over the Kopili river and will take part in an open meeting. Imran Shah, president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha will preside over the function where Patricia Mukhim, editor of The Shillong Times will be the chief guest.
