|12-year-old Manipur girl's death: JAC sets Oct 13 deadline to hand over case to CBI|
IMPHAL, Oct 11: The Manipur government has been given three days by the JAC to hand over the case of the suspicious death of N Babysana to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Twelve-year-old N Babysana, a student of Class VII in Standard Roberth Higher Secondary in Imphal’s Canchipur was found dead in her hostel dormitory on July 18 morning.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of the student, with the support of various civil society organisations and student bodies, has been pressing the state government to hand over the investigation of the case to CBI.
State chief minister N Biren Singh had earlier assured fulfilling the demand.
Alleging that the state government is yet to hand over the case to the CBI, the JAC on Thursday set October 13 deadline to the state government to produce documents related with the CBI taken over the case.
The JAC set the deadline after a meeting hosted by the JAC and attended by leaders of various women civil bodies. They unanimously resolved to revive the agitation, demanding handing over the case to CBI.
Addressing a press conference held after the meeting on Thursday, JAC convenor L Gyaneshori said that if the state government fails to hand over the case to CBI within the set deadline, a 24-hour general strike call will be given in Thangmeiband Assembly constituency on the next day, October 14.
