SHILLONG, Oct 10 - The Union Ministry of Social Justice has sanctioned an amount of Rs 300 crore to the Meghalaya Government for construction of the main stadium for the 2022 National Games to be held in the State.
Informing about the sanction, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the amount would be spent on building a new stadium for the Games and the land for it has been identified by the Sports Department.
“The Sports Department has identified a 50-acre land in New Shillong (Mawdiangdiang) and another 70 acres for building the Games village,” the minister said.
He added that the process is on to get the project out of the drawing board and implement it on the ground by November 15.
“The Sports Department gave a presentation to the Cabinet of the work it has done so far and everyone was pleased,” Tynsong said. Some of the immediate initiatives that the department would take up include appointment of a consultant, architect for the project and the Chief Executive Officer of the Games.
Tynsong said the Sports Department is already on the job. He added that necessary funds for building the other infrastructure for the Games are also being ascertained.
