TINSUKIA, Oct 9 - The Asom Chah Jonogosthi Jatiya Mahasabha (ACJJM) has openly expressed its anger over the issue of non-inclusion of Karam Puja, the most important religious festival of the tea tribes people, in the State holiday list.
Speaking at an open meeting that was held on the occasion of Karam Puja at Chota Tingrai near Tinsukia last night, the president and other office-bearers of Tinsukia district committee of the Mahasabha criticised the role of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Dibrugarh MP Rameswer Teli, who were present in the meeting which was presided over by Sanjay Kishan, MLA of Tinsukia, for not taking any initiative to declare the Karam Puja day as a State holiday.
The speakers further mentioned that the Chief Minister had announced that he would take step to include Karam Puja in the State holiday list in a Karam Puja meeting that was held last year at Chaliha Nagar field in Tinsukia. But this year, neither the Chief Minister nor the MP of Dibrugarh or other leaders of the tea tribe have mentioned about the issue.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister praised the tea tribe people for their collective contributions to the development of the socio-economic life of the State, besides other avenues. He also praised the people for their role in making the State green.
The meeting was also addressed by Rameswer Teli, Terash Goala, MLA of Duliajan, besides other dignitaries.
