JORHAT, Oct 8 - Jorhat based Sanmilita Nagarik Mancha has filed a complaint at the Jorhat Police Station against a Jorhat-based doctor, who is also a known literary figure and owner of a leading Guwahati-based Assamese magazine, charging the duo for publishing an article using derogatory language while commenting on the tea workers’ community.

A police source said that a case (No. 2758/19) has been registered at the police station in this regard on Saturday.

Dr Devabrata Sharma, Advisor of the Mancha and Principal of Jorhat College (Amalgamated), who is one of the signatories of the complaint, said that the doctor who penned the article “cannot degrade an entire community” in a manner done by him (doctor).

“The article not only hurt and humiliated the community as a whole, but will have an adverse impact in uniting the different communities of the State,” Dr Sharma, who is also a scholar in English and Assamese languages, said.

A police official said investigation into the case is on.
