DERGAON, Oct 8 - Brisk preparations are on to celebrate the 571st birth anniversary of 15th century saint-reformer Srimanta Sankaradeva with extended programmes at Dergaon.
The 571st birth anniversary will be celebrated under the aegis of Navodaya Yubak Sangha in association with the residents of Kosolial Gaon, 10 kms off Dergaon town at Kosolial Gaon Naamghar with a two-day programme starting October 12.
The inaugural programme will be kick-started by Haranath Hazarika by planting a sapling. It will be followed by hoisting of the insigne by Hiteswar Saikia and subsequent Khol Prasanga by Ghanakanta Hazarika on October 12.
Bhagavata Pradakhsin will be conducted by Sadananda Hazarika and Biren Bora where all the residents of greater Kosolial area will participate.
In order to attract children to the programme, essay, extempore speech, art, poem recitation and quiz competitions will be held among the school students.
In the evening, the traditional earthen lamp will be illuminated by Bubai Saikia while the main gate and the cultural function will be inaugurated by Debeswar Saikia and Prajnan Pratim Baruah respectively.
The cultural procession will be inaugurated by Hemadhar Bora in the morning on October 13.
In the afternoon, the open meeting will be chaired by retired Principal of Gurjogania HS School Biren Thakur. The meeting will be attended by Dipak Sarma of Prag News as distinguished guest while retired Principal of Gurjogania HS School Golap Chandra Bora and Arun Sarma will take part as invited guests. The Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan - North East states and secretary of leading nature organisation AASHRAY Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika will deliver a talk as the appointed speaker.
In the evening a bhaona titled Birusonar Bishnupriya, Balir Janma Rahasya will be staged by the local artistes.
The birth anniversary of the saint-reformer will also be celebrated by the Golaghat district branch of Srimanta Sakardeva Sangha (SSS) with a two-day programme on October 19 and 20 at Dergaon Naren Sarma Memorial Field.
Preparations are presently under way with a reception committee headed by Kamini Kumar Dutta, Dilip Kumar Bora and Prasanta Madhav Bora as president, working president and secretary respectively.
On the first day, several competitions like poem recitation, extempore speech, debate, quiz, essay writing, Borgeet, Bayon, Nartan, Thionaam, Dihanaam etc., will be held among the children, youth and women.
The second day’s programme will start after hoisting of the insigne by the president of Golaghat district branch of SSS Abani Barua, which will be followed by Bhagavat procession and open meeting.
The open meeting will be inaugurated by the president of the cultural sub-committee of SSS Pabitra Pran Bora and will be participated in by Dr Lakshminandan Bora and Jagat Chandra Bania as appointed speakers while former chief of SSS Bhabendra Nath Deka, litterateur Dr Nagen Thakur, MP Gaurav Gogoi, MLA Mrinal Saikia, MLA Bhabendra Nath Bhorali, DC Golaghat Dhiren Hazarika etc., will attend as distinguished guests.
The programme will end with presentation of Ankiya Bhaona Parijat Haran to be inaugurated by artiste Ajit Bora.
