|Amur falcons spotted in Manipur|
IMPHAL, Oct 8 - Amur falcons have started arriving in Manipur’s Tamenglong district particularly on the bank of Barak river, sources said. Barak, which originates from Senapati district passes through Tamenglong district.
Sharing information with this correspondent, a resident of hill town, who is actively involved in conservation of wildlife in the district, said, “We have also spotted the first batch of Amur falcons.”
On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Armstrong Pame of Tamenglong district ordered a ban on all air guns and directed to deposit their guns to give a safe passage to Amur falcons during their migration period in the district.
“Amur falcons usually arrive in many parts of Northeast India, including Tamenglong district during the first week of October, and therefore the use of all air guns have been banned,” the DC said. Meanwhile, the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) scientists in collaboration with Manipur Forest Department are planning to tag five Amur falcons.
