SILCHAR, Oct 7 - Ahead of the resumption of passenger train services from Silchar with the 02508 Silchar-Trivandrum special train slated to run from October 8, the Cachar health department has undertaken a host of measures to ensure testing of the passengers amidst increasing cases of the COVID-19.
According to sources at the Silchar Railway Station, the train to Trivandrum will depart from here at 8:05 pm. Also, the return train from Trivandrum will reach Silchar on October 16 at 7 pm. District Media Expert NHM Suman Choudhury has said that all passengers en-route Trivandrum will undergo thermal checking at the station. “The passengers leaving Silchar station on October 8 shall have their thermal check-up done before the departure of the train. No visitor accompanying the passengers would be allowed to go inside the train to see off the passengers,” he said.
On the other hand, Choudhury informed that anticipating at least 400-500 passengers returning from Trivandrum, the health department has decided to set up at least 10 counters for conducting the COVID-19 tests.
“From the information received from Railways so far, we anticipate 400-500 passengers returning to Silchar by the train. We shall have 10 counters at the station and there would be sufficient doctors and staff for carrying out the test proceedings. All passengers returning to Silchar must have to undergo the tests. Following the tests, while passengers who would turn to be negative would be allowed to leave the station, the passengers who would be found positive after the tests (depending on their symptoms) would be given the option for home isolation or hospitalisation,” Choudhury was quoted as saying.
