GUWAHATI, Oct 6 - Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment, laid the foundation stone for renovation and upgrading of the ESIC Model Hospital in Beltola, Guwahati today. While addressing the gathering, the Minister said the hospital would prove to be a boon for the beneficiaries of the ESI Scheme in the North East in general and beneficiaries of Guwahati in particular.
“The Centre is giving special focus on labour welfare and development of north-eastern states. The Ministry of Labour & Employment is all geared up to for betterment of the life of the working class of this region,” he stated.
The 100-bed hospital will have indoor and outdoor facilities including OPDs, round-the-clock emergency service, ICU, operation theatres, pathology rooms, etc.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the VV Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati was also signed today by Dr H Srinivas, Director General of VVGNLI and Dr DK Srivastava, Deputy Director of TISS, Guwahati in presence of Minister Gangwar, Pallav Lochan Das, Minister of State (IC) for Labour, Government of Assam and M Sathiyavathy, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment.
Gangwar said the good collaborative work proposed to be done in the north-eastern states could also be replicated in the entire country so that all get benefited.
The collaborative activities under the MoU will focus on organising joint training programmes for different social partners as well as research on various issues related to labour.
