CID probe begins into alleged Water Resource dept scam|
MANGALDAI, Oct 5 - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has started investigation into the alleged anomalies in the tendering process and allotment of works for a few schemes carried out recently involving several crores of rupees. In this connection, a CID team led by an Inspector on Wednesday visited the office of the Executive Engineer, Water Resource department, Mangaldai Division and interrogated a section of senior officials and staff in this regard. The investigating team also visited Borkumarpara (Punia) village under Mangaldai Revenue Circle where a dyke was constructed to control flood water of river Noa at an estimated cost of about rupees two crores seventy lakhs under SDRF 2015-16.
However, a few days after its completion, around 30 metres of the dyke was washed away on June 16 last during the first wave of flood this year. Meanwhile, talking to mediapersons, a CID official informed that following complaints that there were corrupt practices in the tendering process and allotment of works in the scheme, they have started the investigation and already directed the Executive Engineer of the division to submit all relevant documents.
