 e-magazine released

 Biswanath Chariali, Oct 4 - A bi-monthly multi-lingual e-magazine Prayash’ published by Samagra Siksha Abhiyan, Biswanath, was released by Janardan Bhuyan, former Principal of Jamuguri Higher Secondary School, in a webinar organised jointly by the Bharati Foundation and Samagra Siksha Abhiyan, Biswanath on October 2 in the presence of Bedabrat Borah, District Programme Officer. A virtual cultural programme was organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti that began with a welcome address by Mukut Kalita followed by an inaugural speech by Manoranjan Payeng, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Mission Coordinator. A district-based quiz competition for all students related to Poshan Abhiyan and the Satya Bharti Educational Rockstar Achivers Awards were held for elementary and secondary level teachers on the occasion. – Correspondent

1 more virus death at Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Oct 4 - One more person in Dhemaji district died of COVID-19 on Saturday. With it, the total number deaths in the district due to COVID-19 rose to 25, official sources said. Dr Krishna Kemprai, Joint Director of Health Services, Dhemaji, said that 42 new cases of COVID-19 were detected on Saturday in Dhemaji district through RTPCR and Rapid Antigen Test, taking the total number of COVID -19 patients in the district to 4265. A total of 623 COVID tests were done on Saturday in the district, taking the total number of COVID tests in the district to 65618. Dr Kemprai also informed that a total 1163 COVID patients are under treatment in different COVID hospitals in the district. – ANN Service

Puja guidelines at Gossaigaon

Gossaigaon, Oct 4 - The Gossaigaon civil administration in a meeting held at the conference hall under the chairmanship of Pallavi Sarkar SDO(C), Gossaigaon has decided that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, puja celebrations will be low-key. The committees have been asked to install CCTVs around their pandals, and have male and female volunteers. Only 30 persons will be allowed to enter the pandal at one time. Melas, street vending, has been banned. Immersion would have to be carried out by five persons only. – ANN Service

53 test positive in Morigaon dist

JAGIROAD, Oct 4 - Within the last three days, 53 more COVID-19 positive cases were detected on Saturday in Morigaon district through Rapid Antigen Test, taking the total in the district to 2080. Out of them, 21 were found positive in Jagiroad constituency, said the District Nodal Officer, Dr Arun Nath. – Correspondent

70 found positive in Cachar

SILCHAR, Oct 4 - As many as 70 persons across Cachar district were detected COVID-19 positive on Saturday. District Media Expert Suman Choudhury informed that while 61 persons were RAT positive, nine others were found to be positive cases from the RTPCR test. On the other hand, Dr Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that a total of 1,09,613 swab samples have undergone RTPCR tests at the microbiology laboratory of the hospital so far. – Staff Correspondent

3 more virus deaths in Jorhat

JORHAT, Oct 4 - The death of three more Covid-19 positive patients in Jorhat district raised the death toll of positive cases in the district to 40 on Saturday. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed on Saturday evening that three more persons of Jorhat district expired due to COVID-19. Meanwhile, 116 more positive cases, without travel history were found in Jorhat district on Saturday taking the total number of positive cases in the district to 9906. Korati stated that among the 116 positive cases, 18 were from Jorhat town. The total number of active cases in the district on the Saturday was 1470, the Deputy Commissioner stated.

Foundation day

Mirza, Oct 4 - South Kamrup Kala Sanskriti Mancha (SKKSM) celebrated its 6th annual foundation day at Sarpara MV School near here on October 2 with a one-day long programme. The workers of the Manch conducted a cleanliness drive in the campus of the School in the morning. The flag of the Manch was hoisted by the president Dr Guneswar Sahahria. Executive president, SKKSM, Dr Praneswar Nath performed smriti tarpan. Noted litterateur of South Kamrup, Naren Majumdar released two books COVID-19 and Mukta Akashor Tolot written by Nirupama Majumdar. Memorandum submitted

Gossaigaon, Oct 4 - The All Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Sanmiloni Gossaigaon district committee submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Saturday through the SDO(C), Gossaigaon demanding taking of concrete steps to declare ST status for the community. Suroth Chandra Ray, president of the committee along with a team met the civil administration and handed over the memorandum. The memorandum stated that despite a series of steps being taken in this direction, the final announcement has not yet been made. – ANN Service

AJYCP stages demo

JORHAT, Oct 4 - AJYCP activists on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the District Transport Officer (Jorhat) to protest against exorbitant fare charges imposed by public transport vehicle operators across Jorhat district. Holding banners and placards, the protesters shouted slogans demanding stern action by the Transport department against errant four and three-wheel public transport vehicle operators who were reportedly charging fares excessively high than the prescribed rates from passengers in the various routes across the district. The protesters were led by AJYCP State unit executive committee member Siba Kalita, Pranabjyoti Saikia and Debajit Hazarika, president and general secretary respectively of the Jorhat district unit. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the DTO in this regard. – Staff Correspondent
