|BEd first year students seek exam cancellation|
GUWAHATI, Oct 4 - Taking a strong exception to the decision of Gauhati University (GU) to conduct the first year BEd course examination from the second week of November, the first year BEd students under the university today appealed to the university authority to cancel the examination given the COVID-induced situation.
Issuing a notification on Thursday, GU stated that students can submit exam forms for the first year BEd course online from Monday to October 20.
The first year BEd students under Gauhati University have raised concern over the notification and stated that it is an injustice to the students as it does not proceed with the prevailing pandemic situation and mental preparedness of the students to sit for the examination.
The students have already sent letters to the Controller of Examination, Gauhati University, in this regard. A group of students representing the first year BEd students will also submit a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of the university tomorrow regarding cancellation of examination and will urge him to promote the students based on the internal assessment.
“In general, the classes of second year BEd course start from September and end in February. The students will have an internship programme of four months and this sudden exam routine will tear our whole system apart and break the chain. The authority had published different guidelines several times about the examination, but they did not publish a single guideline for the first year BEd students and that’s why we were unable to anticipate the exam routine,” a student said.
“According to UGC guidelines, there is a provision to promote the students of intermediate courses based on internal assessment and online assignment, which is done by several universities. So, we request the GU authority to promote the students based on the internal assessment and other assignments,” the students added.
