Sankardev Janmotsav celebrated

 SUALKUCHI, Oct 4 – The people of Sualkuchi celebrated the 564th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev, the saint reformer who propounded the new Vaishnavite movement in Assam and established a classless democratic society by founding naamghars, with a five-day colourful programme from September 24. The Janmotsav was celebrated in Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir, Sri Sri Sankardev Dham, Sri Sri Krishna Mandir and in other four naamghar of four branches of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Assam by the people of vaishnavite communities.

The Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha of Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir celebrated the birth anniversary with a four-days programme from September 24. On the first day besides other programmes the presentation of bhaona’ in the open by some organisations was attractives the Depmalika (illumination of jars) at the gateways of each family in the evening, the Bhagawat Shobhajatra with gayan bayan, and the theatrical performance created a festive atmosphare in the silk village.

On September 25 the religious flag was hoisted by Debi Ram Das, president, Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha which was followed by a religious march in the village. In this march hundreds of devotees putting an traditional attires and chanting ghosha’ paraded through out every nook and corner of the village.

In the afternoon, the Dharmokanta Trust Borgeet Competition was held and at night Nri Shinha Jatra an ankiya bhowna was staged by Srimanta Sankar Kristi Bikash Kendra. On the September 26 in the morning, a religious procession participated by women was taken out through out the main streets of the village and in the afternoon a religious discourse was held with Debi Ram in the chair. Dr Sanjeeb Kumar Borkakoti, researcher took part in the discussion as an appointed speaker. In the evening the cultural show on Satriya dance and songs was held at Sankardev Naatghar.

Debi Ram Das inaugurated the show while Ganesh Chandra Kalita, vice president of Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha, Rameswar Medhi secretary, Bimal Medhi, president, Kristi Bikash Kendra were present in the show. On the concluding day, a seminar on relevance ‘Ek Sharan Harinaam Dharma in the present society in Assam’ was held and Thaneswar Malakar, writer and the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district took part in it. Sada Ram Das, president public unit of Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha conducted the seminar.

All Sri Sri Sankardev Dham, the Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha celebrated the Janmotsav with a four-day programme from September 24. On the occasion a religious discourse was held on September 25 with Gopal Chandra Malakar, former president of Hajo Zila Unit, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha in the chair. Moni Das, publicity secretary Srimanta Sankardev Sangha participated in the discourse as an appointed speaker. Theatrical performance, naagara naam, cultural meet were the attractive function held on the occasion.

At Sri Sri Krishna Mandir, Kaibarta para the janmotsav was celebrated with a five day programme from September 24. The four branches of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha celebrated the birth anniversary of Sankardev here with many colourful programmes.
