BRUSSELS, Oct 4 – One of key figures in the ASEM 8 Summit is India’s Ambassador to Belgium and European Union (EU) is Dr Jamini Bhagawati. He is from Tezpur, Assam.Bhagawati took over his assignment as Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg and to the European Union on September 15, 2008. Dr Bhagawati is a member of the 1976 batch of the Indian Foreign Service. He has served for 33 years in various capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India and at the World Bank in Washington DC.
Immediately prior to being appointed as India’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, Dr Bhagawati served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and earlier as Chief,
Corporate Finance at the World Bank.
