Civic polls in Tripura in December
Correspondent
AGARTALA, Oct 4 – The elections to the civic bodies including Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) will be held in December next, official sources said here on Monday.

The draft publication of electoral rolls for the ensuing civic polls will be published on October 18 and filing of claims and objections will be allowed from October 18 to 25.

The decision has been taken at an all party meeting held here on Friday. The meeting, which was attended by all recognised political parties, was presided over by State Election Commissioner YP Singh.

In the meeting, it was decided that the final publication of the electoral rolls will be on November 12 after disposal of claims and objections on October 30 to pave the way for the civic elections.

The electoral rolls of municipalities will be prepared on the basis of Assembly electoral rolls with reference to 1.1. 2010 as the qualifying date.

In the meeting, a threadbare discussion on polling stations for the civic polls was also held. The final list of polling stations will be published on October 29.

In the last civic election, the ruling Left Front had swept the polls by securing all the 17 Nagar Panchayats and AMC. However, this time the civic election assumes significance keeping in view the Left Front’s downfall in West Bengal in the recent civic bodies’ election in which Trinamool Congress had registered a splendid result.
