NAGAON, Oct 3 – Once again the agitation against foreign nationals, mainly Bangladeshi nationals is gaining momentum in the State. Like other parts of the State, in Nagaon too a protest rally was recently organised by a number of organisations.Recently two separate protest rallies were organised one under the auspices of BJP and the other by AJYCP, Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, KMSS etc. The BJP protest march was led by MP Rajen Gohain, where thousands of party activists from Nagaon and Morigaon district took part. Dilip Maran, BJP MLA from Doomdooma also participated.
They marched through the main thoroughfares of the town by shouting slogans with a demand to deport the illegal migrants. MP Rajen Gohain claimed that the future of Assam is totally dark if we fail to deport the foreign nationals. Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the DC, Nagaon.
Their demands included among other things to seal the international border, etc. Another similar protest march passed through the town which was flagged off by Makhani Kataki, mother of a martyr. In this march, thousands of people belonging to the AJYCP, KMSS, HYCP, former ULFA coordination committee, Asam Satra Mahasabha, Sreemanta Sankar Sangha, Asam Sahitya Sabha, AGP, AYP, Khilanjia Musalman Jatiya Mahasabha, Bhojpuri Yuba Chatra Parishad, Nagaon Senior Citizens’ Forum, Marwari Yuba Mancha, Sikh Yuba Mancha, Nagaon Bengali Sanmilani and others took part.
Representatives of different organisations, including Jibeswar Deba Goswami, Raju Bora, Brajen Kakati, Narendra Chouhan, Pradip Saikia, Aananda Bodo, artist Guna Mahanta, social worker Rekha Sharma and others highlighted the problems of foreign nationals faced by the State as well as the country. Another rally was organised recently under the leadership of AASU. They too carried banners, placards and shouted slogans against the illegal migrants.
Former MLA Girindra Kumar Baruah, actor Guna Mahanta, singer Krishnamani Nath, AGP leader Mamani Bora, Manimadhab Mahanta, Kamal Kumar Kalita, Mridul Hazarika, Mousam Das (all from AASU), besides tribal leader Prahlad Mashrang and others joined the rally.
They demanded to implement the Assam Accord in letter and spirit and to deport the foreigners. Students’ organisations, besides AASU, like Asam Jatiyatabadi Sangram Parishad, Tiwa Students’ Union, Janajati Students’ Union, Bodo Students Union, MASS, Jatiyatawadi Yuba Parishad and AATSA took part.
