Students urged to inculcate Gandhian philosophy

 UDALGURI, Oct 2 - Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was a global messenger of non-violence and humanity. Not only in his motherland, Gandhi preached his principles globally and succeeded in the long run, as a result of which the British had to quit India in 1947. Our students must be given the education which helps inculcate Gandhian philosophy of non-violence. This was observed by Dr Nilima Dutta, head of the Department of History of Udalguri College, during the concluding function of the two-year Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Udalguri HS School auditorium on Friday. She said students being the future citizens of India must be involved in programmes related to Gandhi so that the message of Gandhian philosophy is spread to every nook and corner.

 The function was organised by the Udalguri district administration in collaboration with the Inspector of Schools. Udalguri HS School principal Pushpadhar Bastola, Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphaliya, Inspector of Schools Bhaben Deuri, national teachers award recipient Nareswar Deka and Darrang District Bodo Sahitya Sabha former president Amarendra Swargiari attended the programme.

KOKRAJHAR: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Kokrajhar district administration organised a quiz competition for students from class 9 to 12 at Science College, Kokrajhar. Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Phukan inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in presence of Inspector of Schools JP Brahma and other guests.

The 6th Bn of SSB stationed at Ranighuli in Kokrajhar district near the Indo-Bhutan border observed the day with a cleanliness programme and plantation drive. Commandant Jitendra Gupta, SSB officials, jawans and staff took part.

SUALKUCHI: The 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Sualkuchi by the Gandhi Ashram Managing Committee. Gita Path was conducted by Mukunda Baishya of Sri Sri Gopal Satra. Jayanta Baishya, former secretary of the Bapuji Tuliya Raij Gayrah, garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and Mukunda Baishya lit the lamp.

Dinesh Baishya, president of the Gandhi Ashram Managing Committee, offered floral tribute. Baishya, a veteran citizen of Sualkuchi who was one of the volunteers to welcome Gandhi at Sualkuchi on January 9, 1946, narrated his experiences of that day.

MORIGAON: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Morigaon with the main government function at Morigaon Pobitora Hat hall. Tributes were paid to Gandhi by MLA Rama Kanta Deori, DC Leena Das and SP Dr Nanda Singh Borkala. Some sanitation workers were also felicitated. The day was also observed by the Morigaon District Freedom Fighters Sons and Daughters Association at the historic Gandhi Bhavan

TEZPUR: In connection with Gandhi Jayanti, the Sonitpur Press Club organised a cleanliness drive at Kanaklata Civil Hospital here to promote swachhata (sense of cleanliness) among the masses.

Inaugurated by noted playwright and Natasurya Phani Sharma Award winner Asarya Kakoti, members of the press club and civil hospital staff participated in the drive.

The district administration also held a programme at the DC office where Prof Chandan Kumar Sharma, from the Department of Sociology, Tezpur University, delivered a speech on the importance of the day.

DERGAON: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in Golaghat district at a programme organised by the district administration. Several sanitation workers who contributed a lot towards managing the COVID-19 pandemic were felicitated.

Deputy Commissioner Bibhash Chandra Modi said that without the service of cleaners, no one could able to handle the COVID pandemic.

The cleaners were presented a gamosa and a T-shirt with ‘Covid Jodhha’ written on it. ADC Dhiraj Das, Joint Director of Health Services Dr Arun Chandra Mahanta, SKKCH Superintendent Dr Surendra Nath Tamuli, DME Purbali Hazarika were present.

At a programme at Nahordonga Model Hospital, seven cleaners were felicitated. Block Programme Manager Mondip Khound, Dergaon Circle Officer (attached) Manish Bharali and Swachh Bharat Mission brand ambassador Sanjoy K Hazarika were present. Deputy Superintendent Dr Indreswar Bora, SDM&HO Dr Hemanta Borah, Dr Ajoy Khound also attended.
