France U-17 World Cup team arrives in city

 JALUKBARI, Oct 2 - The France team for upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup, being hosted by India, arrived here this evening. Champions in 2001, the France team will be making their sixth appearance at the U-17 World Cup.

According to sources, the team checked in at the Taj Vivanta hotel. Guwahati, one of the six venues of the tournament beginning on October 6.

The first match to be played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium will see New Caledonia face off against France on October 8 at 5 pm followed by Honduras taking on Japan at 8 pm.

Japan and France, favourites to qualify from the group stage, will face each other in the first match on October 11, while Honduras and New Caledonia play each other at 8 pm.

France are placed in Group E along with New Caledonia, Honduruas and Japan. Guwahati will also host the Round of 16 tie between Group E toppers and the second-placed team in Group D. Apart from Guwahati, Navi Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Goa and Kolkata will be hosting the World Cup matches.
