PMO call postpones Tripura Guv’s US visit
Correspondent
AGARTALA, Oct 2 - The US trip of Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy, who was scheduled to leave here on Saturday, has been postponed by a phone call from the Prime Minister’s Office raising eyebrows in the political circle.

Roy was in Kolkata on ‘Puja’ vacation and was to leave for USA to meet his daughter and son-in-law there.

But a call from PMO has compelled the Governor to return to Raj Bhavan here. The issue has raised eye-brows as a Governor generally received calls and instructions either directly from Rashtrapati Bhawan or from Union Home Ministry, but this time has been an exception as the call came from PMO.

There was no comment on the issue but knowledgeable sources expressed ‘surprise’ at the postponement of the Governor’s visit at the intervention of PMO. “The PMO may have a different plan for which the Governor’s presence here is required”, sources said.

Apart from this, a high power parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP and Press Council of India (PCI) member Meenakshi Lekhi will arrive here on October 2 to stake stock of the situation in the wake of the murder of young TV channel journalist Santanu Bhowmik on September 20 and the media agitation over the issue.
