Govt urged to clear tribal belts of encroachers

 MORIGAON, Oct 2 - The 13th annual conference of Morigaon District Tribal Sangha was held here at Tribal Sangha office premises recently with a daylong programme.

Altogether 200 delegates from different parts of Morigaon district took part in this conference. The programme began with flag hoisting by Deba Ram Pator, president, Morigaon District Tribal Sangha followed by offering of smriti tarpan by Chidananda Tiwasa, general secretary of the Sangha. In the open session, Dhiren Ingti, joint secretary, Assam Tribal Sangha and Rimal Amsi, president, Tribal Youth League were present as the guests of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Dhiren Ingti said that the tribal people of Assam have been facing various problems including land rights. Supporting the State Government’s stand on eviction of illegal encroachers from Government land, Ingti appealed to the Government to clear the land of tribal belts and blocks from the clutches of illegal encroachers.

The open meeting was inaugurated by Ananta Deori, vice- president of Tribal Sangha. In the open session, Pranab Jyoti Mosrong was elected as the new president of the Sangha while Chidananda Tiwasa was again nominated as the general secretary of Morigaon District Tribal Sangha.
