NGOs to stage protest rally in Tura
Correspondent
TURA, Oct 2 - A group of NGOs in Tura have decided to take out a rally and procession here on Tuesday to protest the rape of two students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) by two teachers of the school, Yogesh Joshi and Deepjyoti Das.

The two, who are currently in custody, repeatedly raped the two girls of the school besides mentally torturing them.

In a letter to Meghalaya Education Minister Deborah Marak, the consortium of NGOs including GSU, FAF, FKJGP, ADE and AYWO sought the harshest punishment for the two culprits.

The NGOs had yesterday protested the questioning of the students by KV authorities without consent from authorities.

According to the NGOs, the teachers had even deliberately failed the girls and physically assaulted one of them when they refused the demands of the teachers to continue a sexual relationship with them.

The NGOs also urged the Tura Bar Association not to defend the accused teachers.

“The accused teachers must be terminated from their jobs and penalised under the strictest law possible. The Kendriya Vidyalaya must employ more locals so that such incidents are curbed and the activities of the teachers, especially personal tuitions, must be monitored,” said the memorandum to the Education Minister.
