|Tea manufacturers set terms for adherence|
DIBRUGARH, Oct 2 – Following government’s bid to implement government’s Tea Marketing Control Order (TMCO) rules to control the multi crore green market in the district, Assam Bought Leaf Tea Manufacturer’s Association (ABLTMA) has offered to subscribe to the Tea Board regulations only if their set conditions were taken into consideration.
Tea Board has formulated the price sharing formula and laid down enough guidelines for the fixation of the price for green tea leaves payable to the small tea growers, but the regulations are not at all applied by the tea factories. Small tea growers are surrendering their produce to the tea manufacturers for little money when the price sharing formula underlines that the price share ratio between growers and manufacturers have to be 65:35.
ABLTMA has suggested that the payment against green tea leaves be made monthly as this mode was more suited to the pattern of cash inflow depending on the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) payment, which does not come earlier than five weeks. The tea manufacturer’s association has said that the rate of payment against green leaves shall be 75% on the basis of the general average price of the immediate preceding month’s GTAC sale report, with respect to the bought leaf tea factories teas.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner here, the manufacturer’s association further said that the acceptable leaf standard should be two and a bud which may be extended to single soft banji or third leaf but not beyond that, grievance redressal forum should be formed under a magistrate to hear and decide various thorny issues both from the small growers and the manufacturers and the administrative authority should make the TMCO equally applicable for the whole of the Tea Industry in Assam, regardless of big or small, organized or unorganized, the manufacturers association has said and added that defaulters be brought to book forthwith under suitable provision of the law.
Chairman of the Assam Bought Leaf Tea Manufacturers Association, K Sensowa said that the manufacturers would adhere to the TMCO order of price sharing formula after monitoring authorities accepted their suggestions.
