Night curfew clamped along Assam-Nagaland border
JORHAT, Sept 30 - The Jorhat district administration, under Section 144 of the Cr PC, has clamped night curfew within the radius of five kilometres along the Assam-Nagaland border in the district.

The curfew will be in force from 8pm to 5am, the order issued by the Jorhat District Magistrate on Friday stated, a district administration source informed.

The order mentioned that the measure has been taken in view of apprehension of militants trying to sneak into the district to carry out subversive activities, the source said, quoting the order.

Security force personnel, magistrates and employees of the Forest Department deployed in the border areas have been exempted from the night curfew, the order mentioned.

The source said that night curfew has been declared along the inter-State border as part of the security measures undertaken for the Durga Puja commencing from October 5.

The order further said that the night curfew will be in force until further order by the district magistrate in this regard, the source stated.

It may be mentioned here that earlier this year, the district administration declared night-curfew twice along the Assam-Nagaland border in the district.

The source stated that Jorhat district shares over 100 km boundary with Nagaland which has a rough terrain and dense forests.

Bharat Mata Puja: For the first time a five-day district-level Bharat Mata Puja event will be organized near the Shree Shree Maha Vishnu Yagya Mandir at Nehru Park area from October 4.

According to the organisers, the event will be held to offer obeisance to ‘Bharat Mata’ and create the feeling of devotion to the nation by highlighting its glorious past.

Internationally-acclaimed singer, musician, poet, painter and a speaker Baba Satyanarayan Mourya will perform Bharat Mata Arati at 7pm on October 6, which will be a special programme as part of the event.

The organisers said that competitions on story-telling, painting, patriotic dance, will be held as part of the event on the same day. The winners will be awarded cash prizes.
