GUWAHATI, Nov 29 – Tributes were paid to the hallowed memory of author Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami at a public meeting held at the Pratima Baruah Auditorium at Rajdhani Super Market under the auspices of Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with Rajdhani Sahitya Sabha.
Senior journalist DN Chakravartty presided over the function.
Hemendra Nath Talukdar, vice-president of Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha, placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Dr Goswami and lit the ceremonial lamp. In his speech, Talukdar dwelt on the vast contributions of Dr Goswami to Assamese literature.
Mrinalini Devi, Padumi Gogoi, Pabitra Kumar Sarma and Uttam Baruah, while paying tributes to the author, analysed the specialties of different characters introduced by Dr Goswami in the vast repertoire of her novels.
Chakravartty, in his presidential remarks, said that it was Dr Goswami who made the monumental endeavour to acquaint the world intelligentsia with the richness of Assamese literature. He also stressed the need for more scientific analysis of the works of Dr Goswami and their abiding literary value.
Pradip Kumar Bora and Mridul Kumar Baruah, secretary and assistant secretary respectively of Rajdhani Sahitya Sabha also spoke.
The All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) also held a memorial meet at Swahid Nyas today on the first death anniversary of the author. The meeting was attended by a number of distinguished citizens besides students from various educational institutions.
