|Over 26,000 bogus ration cards in Hailakandi|
HAILAKANDI, Nov 27 - Over 26,000 bogus ration cards have been terminated in Hailakandi district till date and Minister for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS & CA) Rihon Daimari has directed the officials to weed out bogus ration cards totally in the district within the next 30 days.
Reviewing the activities of the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs at a high level meeting with MLAs of the district, Secretary of FCS & CA, RC Duarah, Deputy Commissioner, Moloy Bora, Director of FCS & CA, DJ Kalita, Controller, Legal Meteorology SN Baishya, senior officials of the department, trade and merchants’ associations, gaon panchayat samabay samitis here on Friday, Daimary asked the officials to strike off the names of persons possessing illegal and fake ration cards under the National Food Security Act. The Minister said the officials must make the people in possession of bogus ration cards to surrender within a stipulated timeframe, failing which legal recourse will be taken against such persons.
As per NFSA, only those with annual income below Rs 1 lakh are entitled to get rice. Names of those who do not fulfil the criteria must be weeded out, he said. The Minister asked the wholesale and retail dealers to keep the prices under check and to display in hoarding the stock of quantity and prices of each item.
Exhorting upon the wholesale and retail dealers to supply essential commodities at reasonable prices, Daimari warned that stringent action will be taken against those resorting to artificial hoarding with the ulterior motive of making money hand over fist. Daimari asked the district administration to cancel the licences of hawkers who are inoperative. Hailakandi has over 849 numbers of hawkers.
The Minister directed the Inspector, Legal Meteorology to make random visits to the shops, oil depots, gas agencies, market places and tea gardens to see the accuracy of the weights and measures equipment.
