Manipur developing roadmap to become self-sufficient in fish production

 IMPHAL, Nov 27: Manipur fisheries department is developing a roadmap to become self-sufficient in fish production for the State’s population by 2020 under the initiative of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, according to Bidyarani Ayekpam, Director of state fisheries department.

Speaking at the daylong national interface meet on ‘Innovative approaches for development of freshwater aquaculture in Manipur’ at ICAR Manipur Centre here on Tuesday, Director Bidyarani said, “So we’re trying to focus on the skill training programmes of the fish farmers apart from exploring to increase the cultivable areas and quality seeds.”

The national interface meet was organised jointly by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneshwar, ICAR-Manipur Centre, fisheries department, Manipur University and Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
