DIMAPUR, Nov 26 – This year’s Hornbill Festival to be celebrated under the theme ‘Unity” will witness spectacular opening and closing programme, informed Himato Zhimomi, Nagaland Commissioner & Secretary Tourism, Art & Culture today.
He also said a few additional items including piglet catching game, indigenous games played by Naga forefathers would be showcased. Elements portraying a blend of old and new generation would also be featured, he added.
An interesting event would be the North East Riders Meet where over 100 Enfield Riders from all parts of NE would congregate at Kisama. The Riders Meet will be flagged off at Agri Expo Site, Dimapur on December 5 under the theme ‘North East Friendship Rally’.
Besides other events, Hornbill Cycling Rally, Hornbill Half Marathon, World War II Peace Rally, Fashion Night, Hornbill Motor Rally, Raja Chilly (bhut jolokia) eating competition will be some of the events during the Festival, he informed.
“Keeping in mind the Look East Policy and because of the fact that we share international borders with Myanmar, we need to play an important role in the Look East Policy and want to use Hornbill festival as a platform,” Himato stated.
Himato further informed that conference of India’s North East Bridgehead between Myanmar and Nagaland will be held on December 2 at the conference hall of Industries & Commerce department.
