The Bangladesh delegation is being headed by Khondoker Farid Hassan, Additional Director General, Region Commander, South-East Region, Chattogram. It also comprises officers from the Border Guard Bangladesh, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh. India and Bangladesh share a common history, and cultural, social and ethnic links, besides sharing a 4,096 km long international border. The relations between the two countries are currently very amicable and friendly.
Both the border guarding forces – BSF and BGB – also share a cordial relationship. The conference will seek to strengthen these ties by addressing border issues and matters of bilateral interest like trans-border crimes including smuggling of contraband items, pending development works, construction of a single-row fence along the Indo-Bangladesh international boundary and the Coordinated Border Management Plan.
It may be noted that the last such coordination conference was held at the Tripura BSF Frontier here in 2018.
