|Rare surgery performed |
GUWAHATI, Nov 25 - Senior consultant and cardio-thoracic surgeon of GNRC Hospitals Dr Bikash Rai Das and his team successfully removed an unusually huge lung tumour weighing three kgs from the left side of the chest of a 30-year-old male patient from Dhemaji district.
The patient recovered well and has been discharged from the hospital a few days back. Elaborating on the patient and the surgery, Dr Das said that the patient was suffering from the peculiar condition for last many years but was unaware about his condition till the time it attained a big size when the tumour started compressing his lung and heart and he started suffering from breathlessness for the last few months.
“He couldn’t undergo the operation immediately due to lack of financial support but looking at the debilitating condition of this young man, the GNRC management decided to subsidize the cost of the operation greatly, following which he could undergo this surgery. Technically the operation was very demanding and required lots of planning and skill as the tumour was very big,” Dr Das said.
