Protest rally against engineer Pathak’s killing

 GUWAHATI, Nov 25 – The engineers and other employees of various engineering departments of the Assam Government today brought out a procession in Guwahati in protest against the killing of engineer Rajiv Pathak in Haflong and later they attended office wearing black badges.

The procession was organized under the banner of the Federation of Engineering Service Associations of Assam, the umbrella organization of the engineers of the engineering departments of the State. Representatives of different other organizations of the Government employees including the Assam Diploma Engineers Service Association, Agriculture Officers’ Association, Ministerial Services’ Association, Assam Financial Services Officers’ Association and others also participated in the procession.

Meanwhile, the Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Government demanding that all the salaries and allowances due to Pathak till the date of his retirement should be provided to his family.The Federation demanded that a Government job should be provided to the wife of Pathak immediately and a one-time grant of Rs 50 lakh should be paid to the family.

The Federation further demanded that the Government should arrange for special security measures for the officers and employees in insurgency-dominated areas so that people engaged there can discharge their duties without any fear of life and need not work under threat. The Government should also provide personal security officers to all the gazetted officers in such areas.

The Association of Engineers (AOE), ASEB has also expressed its concern and anguish over the killing of engineer Rajib Pathak, an executive engineer under the State Engineering Service, Assam while on duty at Haflong.

The Association has called upon all the employees of the State in general and engineering fratemity in particular, in the service of State and Central Governments and PSUs etc., to raise a concerted protest against all kinds of anarchy prevailing in the State and also demanded adequate financial compensation to the victim’s family. The AOE, ASEB prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed its deep condolences to the bereaved family of engineer Rajib Pathak.
