Bye-poll to 2 Arunachal Assembly seats announced
Correspondent
ITANAGAR, Nov 24 - Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced bye-election to fill vacancies in Pakke-Kessang and Likabali Assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh on December 21 next.

As per the ECI schedule, counting of votes will take place on December 24. The date for issue of notification is November 27 and the last date of filing nominations is December 4. Scrutiny of nominations is scheduled on December 5 and December 7 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature. The date before which the election shall be completed is December 26.

The bye-election to Pakke-Kessang Assembly seat under East Kameng district was necessitated after Gauhati High Court declared the election of former Chief Minister Kameng Dolo from the constituency in March 15, 2014 polls as void in connection with an election petition filed against him by BJP leader and former Minister Atum Welly.

Pakke-Kessang bye-poll previously scheduled to be held on July 29 was cancelled by ECI considering the adverse climatic conditions with roads in parts of Pakke-Kessang washed away due to heavy rainfall then.

On the other hand, bye-election to Likabali Assembly seat under Lower Siang district of Arunachal was necessitated following the death of incumbent MLA and sitting Health & Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena on September 4 last.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect. The Model Code will apply to the whole of East Kameng and Lower Siang districts and shall be effective till the completion of election process, according to a release from State’s Chief Electoral Officer Kaling Tayeng here today.
