Thousands throng Nalbari Raas festival

 NALBARI, Nov 24 – The famous Nalbari Raas festival that is being held on the Harimandir premises here since November 17, has been witnessing huge crowds every day. A number of foreign tourists too have attended the festival.

Today, the flow of visitors to the venue of the 14-day festival began early in the morning as the Nalbari district administration has declared a local holiday tomorrow on account of the festival.

The mobile theatre troupes have been a big attraction among the crowds at the Raas venue. Altogether eight mobile theatre groups have been presenting their shows every evening.

It has been learnt that the biggest hits have been Maharani presented by Rajtilak Theatre, Smashanyatra presented by Brindaban Theatre and Makarajal of Rajashree Theatre.

The handicraft fair, where about 60 self-help groups and NGOs are taking part with their own products, is also attracting big crowds, especially women.

The Raas Mahotsab will conclude on the night of November 29. But the closing ceremony will be held on November 30, where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be the chief guest.

The Chief Minister is also likely to declare the Nalbari Raas festival as a tourism festival of the State. The people of Nalbari have for long been demanding its declaration as a tourism festival.
