GUWAHATI, Nov 24 – The State paid rich tribute to one of its greatest patriot's Lachit Barphukan on Wednesday. Different programmes were held across the State including the capital city recalling the valour and commitment of this hero of the Saraighat Battle.
In the capital, the district administration (Kamrup metro) held a function at the Lachit Barphukan park at Jalukbari where Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain participated as the chief guest.
Hussain in his speech, called upon the young generation to study the life and heroic deeds of great Ahom general Lachit Barphukan and get inspired. He also stressed the need to promote the idealism of Lachit outside the State.
The Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha observed Lachit Divas at the historic site of the Saraighat Battle and at Andharubali, by the side of the Brahmaputra near Itakhuli hills.
A number of speakers recalled the contribution of the legendary general and said that the State had a lot to learn from Lachit's exploits. A major highlight of the occasion was the special salutation programme in honour of Lachit and a fireworks display.
