NEUFC start ISL on winning note

Mumbai City FC’s Bartholomew Ogbeche (R) vies for the ball with NEUFC’s Khassa Camara during the ISL match at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Goa, on Saturday.
GOA, Nov 21: NorthEast United FC started their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign on a winning note by defeating Mumbai City FC 1-0 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here today. Ghanaian forward Kwesi Appiah converted from the penalty spot in the 49th minute. Dylan Fox’s header off a dangerous ball into the box by Babo Machado hit the arm of Rowllin Borges only for the referee to point to the spot. Appiah who stepped in to take the spot kick sent Mumbai City FC custodian Amrinder Singh the wrong way to find the back of the net with ease.

The first half was thoroughly dominated by Mumbai City FC but they failed to find the desired result. Right from the beginning, they kept the possession and made NEUFC chase the game. There were a few chances created as well but none had the finishing touch.

Mumbai suffered a body blow in the 43rd minute when their playmaker, Ahmed Jahouh, was shown the door for a rash tackle on Khassa Camara. – Agencies
